I taught middle school and high school for seven years in the public school system and became incredibly frustrated with the policies and processes that were in place. In my experience as a teacher, I felt that the entire education system in America needed to be restructured in order for children to really get what they needed, so it was very exciting when I realized I could have a part in creating and facilitating a God-led alternative educational option. We have the opportunity to do away with stifling politics and policies and truly focus on the needs of the children. We have the opportunity to support and encourage the children in their individual giftings and help them become who God created them to be. We will get to know the children and watch them grow, seeing the beauty in each and every one of them and working with their parents to help them flourish in this world with God’s truth as their hope and anchor and an entire “village” of people who love and support them and care about their future. This community that Onward Christian will become as we focus on serving these children together is one way to bring about the unity that Christ spoke of often and that God desires for all of His children. I am excited to be a part of a community of Christ-followers who are dedicated to shaping young minds and training children in the way they should go so that when they are old they will not depart from it. I am blessed by the opportunity and honored to have a part in such a noble endeavor.
