In our K-8 program, we hold courses in the four main core subjects (math, language arts, science, and history/geography) as well as in a wide variety of electives. We use an eclectic mix of tools & texts in our core instruction. While curriculum can vary, our vision remains.

Math

Through a combination of manipulatives, games, and direct instruction, students are trained early on in an understanding of number sense and mental math skills. As they mature, students develop deeper thinking & reasoning skills and begin to see how math is used in everyday life. Math instruction also opens discussion about the order and patterns God placed in our world, pointing to His trustworthy and unchanging nature.

Language Arts

We approach our study of language arts as a privilege to reflect the image of God by growing in our forms of expression. We intentionally equip our students with the skills needed to effectively communicate. Reading instruction begins with an Orton-Gillingham approach of multisensory and direct phonics-based instruction and transitions into an engaging interaction with both modern and classical literature. Students begin the writing process early, sharing their thoughts and learning to manipulate, reorder, and elaborate on their ideas from a young age. As they enter middle school they have already begun the journey of formalizing their writing, progressing in their structure and style each year.

History / Geography

History & Geography are studied as a whole family through two repetitions of a four-year cycle during grades 1-8. Utilizing a rich variety of living books, the whole family approach opens up opportunities for family discussion and exploration, which prove to be more valuable than textbook learning. Students learn about Biblical and world history simultaneously as they grasp the span of time and dive deep into world geography. In class, students complete hands-on projects and group activities to support the topics, and optional historical readers accompany those topics as part of our reading program.

Science

Scientific study draws us to the beauty and majesty of God as we explore the complex, beautiful, and ordered nature of His creation. The subject comes alive as budding scientists inquire, investigate, and experiment with all major topics of science over a four-year cycle, including a month-long nature study each year, giving them an opportunity to make their own discoveries and to connect with nature in an intentional format. Science is also part of our whole-family studies, meaning students in grades 1-8 study the same topics simultaneously, with added depth each year.

Electives

There is so much more learning and fun to be had beyond the core subjects. Students delve deep and get to see where their interests lie - whether that be in Art, Logic, Gardening, Violin, LEGO, etc. K-2 students enjoy Imagination Stations, Thrive, Homesteading, Recreation, STEAM, LEGO, Melody Makers, and Art. Once students reach third grade they have the option to select what interests them most. Electives courses provide a great avenue for discovering your child’s strengths and for enriching their learning experience.
